Animal Control
Council controls the keeping of animals in the urban environment and undertakes routine and random patrols of the Clifton and Nobby areas. Council can be contacted regarding Animal Control on phone (07) 4697 4222.
Arts
Council’s Library has an Art gallery. If you are interested in displaying any Arts Works please contact Clifton Library and Community Centre on (07) 4697 4223.
Arts – Regional Arts Development Fund
Council participates in the Regional Arts Development Fund, which is a program jointly funded by State and Local Government. It encourages arts and cultural development in regional communities. There are two funding rounds each year. Application forms are available from Council's Administration Office, 95 King Street or by telephoning Council on (07) 4697 4222. Building Services
Development permits are necessary for construction of most buildings and structures. An application may either be made to Clifton Shire Council or to a private certifier. Council requires the submission of at least three sets of drawings together with the relevant fees. During construction, Council’s Building Inspector will inspect the building work during various stages to ensure that it complies with the Building Code. Cemeteries
Enquiries regarding the Clifton Cemetery, Clifton Lawn Cemetery & Columbarium Wall, Nobby Cemetery and Back Plains Cemetery can be made through the Administration Office on phone (07) 4697 4222.
Citizenship Ceremonies
Citizenship Application Forms are available for persons wishing to become Australian Citizens from the Council. The applicant must complete the application forms and along with the appropriate application fee should be forwarded for processing to: -

Council Meetings
Meetings of the Council are open to the public. Council’s Ordinary Meetings are held monthly as follows:
Ordinary Meeting – usually meets fourth Tuesday of the month at 6.30pm.
Council agendas are available for perusal by interested persons at Meetings and Council’s Administration Office and the Councils Web Site.
Development Approvals
Development is defined pursuant to the Integrated Planning Act as:-
(a) carrying out building work.
(b) carrying out plumbing or drainage work.
(c) carrying out operational work.
(d) reconfiguring a lot.
(e) making a material change of use of premises.

Dogs
Dogs over the age of three months are required to be registered with registration concessions granted for desexed dogs. The legislation applies to all dogs kept within the Clifton and Nobby Towns. Registration/renewals are due on January 1 each year. Council policy limits the number of dogs that may be kept on any one premises to two. Dogs must be kept on a lead or leash at all times. Councils Off Leash area is situated at the Recreation Grounds, Morton Street, Clifton. Dog Registration
All dogs must be registered and registrations are due January 1 each year:
Whole Dog (3 months and over)
- $25.00 ($20.00 if paid before January 31, 2007)
- Approved Additional Dogs - per dog $150.00 + Registration Fee
Desexed Dog
- $15.00 ($10.00 if paid before January 31, 2007)
Dog Impounding Fees
- $75.00 (SPER System)
Driveways
Written approval from Council is required prior to the construction of driveways and vehicular crossings. The construction of a vehicle crossing can be carried out by Council or a private contractor. An application form is required to be complete prior to the construction of a driveway or vehicle crossing. Elections
The next Local Government Election for the Clifton Shire Council is scheduled to be held in March, 2008.
Employment
Council employees are recruited by advertisement in the Clifton Courier, Warwick Daily News and Toowoomba Chronicle. Applicants must first request an application package from Council. Application packages consist of a Position Description and Application Guidelines. Applications for all positions should be forwarded to the Chief Executive Officer, Clifton Shire Council, PO Box 74, Clifton Q 4361. Applicants will receive notification that their applications have been received.
Applicants may forward a resume to Council where no position has been advertised. The resume will be forwarded to the Chief Executive Officer who will advise of any present or future vacancies. The applicant will also receive a notification that their applications have been received.

Environment Protection
Council administers some of the relevant provisions of the Environmental Protection Act 1994.
The Environmental Protection Act, 1994, is to protect Queensland's environment while allowing for development that improves the total quality of life, now and in the future, in a way that maintains ecological processes on which life depends. This approach is termed 'ecologically sustainable development'.
The Act is to be administered as far as practicable in consultation with and having regard to the views and interest of industry, Aborigines and Torres Strait Islanders, interested groups and persons and the community generally.
The Act defines terms including environment, environmental value, contamination, noise, waste, environmental harm, environmental nuisance, material environmental harm, serious environmental harm, and best practice environmental management.
The Act binds everyone including the Queensland government and its agencies and, as far as legislative power permits, the Commonwealth Government and other state governments.

Food Premises
Council registers all premises where food is manufactured, prepared or sold. Regular inspections are undertaken to ensure that proper health and food standards are maintained in food premises, restaurants, hotels, clubs, etc.
